Porcelain and composite veneers, with a digital preview before we start, at Plot F-881 in Satellite Town — opposite Gate 3 of Holy Family Hospital.
A veneer is a thin facing bonded to the front of a tooth to change its colour, shape, length or apparent position. Composite veneers are built up by hand in the chair in one appointment. Porcelain veneers are made by a laboratory from an impression or a scan and bonded at a second visit; they hold their colour longer and catch the light more like enamel.
People come for veneers for chipped or worn front teeth, a gap they would rather not close with braces, teeth that stayed grey after whitening, or one tooth sitting slightly out of line. Veneers are cosmetic, not a repair for decay or gum disease — those are treated first. If the bite is the real problem, orthodontics will serve you better, and we will say so.
We will not prepare a single tooth until you have seen the plan and agreed to it.
We photograph and scan your teeth, then design the proposed shape on screen so you can see the result before committing to it.
Shade is matched in daylight against your own teeth. Longer, whiter, squarer — those are your choices to make, not ours.
Composite usually needs almost no drilling. Porcelain needs a very thin layer of enamel removed so the veneer does not sit proud of the tooth.
The veneers are bonded, the bite is checked in and out of contact, and the margins polished so nothing catches the tongue or the floss.
Composite veneers are finished in one appointment of roughly one to two hours, depending on how many teeth. Porcelain takes two visits about a week apart, with temporaries in between.
There is little to recover from. Most composite work needs no anaesthetic, and where enamel has been prepared the tooth may be sensitive to cold for a few days. Expect the teeth to feel bulky for a day or two while your tongue gets used to the new edges. After that, treat them as your own with two exceptions: do not open anything with them, and wear a night guard if you grind. Tea, coffee and paan stain composite faster than porcelain.
Book this treatmentAn intraoral scan and a digital design mean you approve the shape and length on screen, not after the drill.
We will tell you when composite is enough and when it will not hold up, instead of selling the dearer option by default.
Gum health and decay are dealt with first. A veneer bonded onto an inflamed gum line will not last.
Composite veneers usually need almost no enamel removed and can be taken off again. Porcelain needs a thin layer prepared, and that part is permanent — which is why we go through it with you first.
Composite typically needs polishing or repair after a few years; porcelain generally lasts longer. Grinding, nail-biting and hard foods shorten both.
Porcelain does not stain the way enamel does. Composite gradually picks up tea, coffee and paan staining and can be polished. Neither responds to whitening gel, so whitening comes first if you want it.
Whatever shows when you smile broadly, which is often six on top. A single veneer can look obvious beside its neighbours, and we will show you the difference on screen.
No. Composite veneers often need no injection at all. For porcelain veneers we numb the teeth before the thin layer of enamel is shaped, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Some sensitivity to cold for a few days afterwards is common and fades on its own.
Brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste and floss as usual. Do not bite nails, pens or ice with the veneered teeth, and wear a night guard if you grind. Tea, coffee and paan can stain composite veneers, so rinse after them and keep your six-monthly check-ups and scaling.
