What is children's dentistry, and when should you start?
Children's dentistry covers everything a child's mouth needs before the adult teeth have settled: check-ups, fluoride, sealants on new molars, small fillings, holding space after an early tooth loss, and brushing advice a six-year-old will actually follow. The first visit is best booked around the first birthday, or whenever the first tooth appears.
Baby teeth matter more than people expect. They hold the space for the adult teeth behind them, and a decayed one can hurt, become infected and cost a child sleep and school. Bring your child in if you see a brown or white mark on a tooth, if they avoid cold food or chew on one side only, or after a knock in a fall.
